USSC Associate Professor Dr David Smith talks to ABC Drive about Congress passing aid packages to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. Dr Smith discusses the “ominous” future of Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson’s tenure, who required Democrat support to pass the package.

Johnson may have been encouraged by Donald Trump’s silence on the issue, despite the former president “not (being) a fan” of Ukraine aid. Dr Smith states that Trump did not vocalise his dissent on these packages because “he doesn’t want to put himself on the unpopular side of another issue…he never likes to be on the losing side of anything.”
