Dr Smith summarises that prosecutors allege Pecker and Trump conspired to kill “stories that were negative to Trump” during the 2016 election.
Dr Smith details the prosecution’s central argument, that “this hush money payment was materially contributing to Trump’s campaign by keeping damaging information out of the 2016 election, [which] means it was an illegal campaign contribution under federal law... If that sounds complicated, it is.”
